Blood tests have a wide range of uses and are one of the most common types of medical test.
A blood test can be used to:
- assess your general state of health
- check if you have an infection
- see how well certain organs, like the liver and kidneys, are working
- screen for certain genetic conditions
Most blood tests only take a few minutes to complete.
A blood test involves taking a blood sample from a vessel in your arm, usually the inside of the elbow or wrist or the back of your hand because the veins are relatively close to the surface.
After the blood sample has been taken, it’ll be put into a bottle and labelled with your name and details and sent to the laboratory. The results are sent back to us within a few days, although some may take a little longer. You’ll be told when your results will be ready and an appointment made for you to return to the clinic.
WE HAVE A 24 HOUR CONTACT LINE TO THE LAB AND IF ANY RESULTS ARE RECEIVED THAT NEED URGENT INPUT, WE WILL BE CONTACTED AND WILL CONTACT YOU STRAIGHT AWAY WITH A COURSE OF ACTION NEEDED.
Sometimes, receiving results can be stressful and upsetting. If you’re worried about the outcome of a test, you may choose to bring a friend or relative with you.

BUYING A TEST
The price includes:
- the test kit, printing and packaging for the lab
- the phlebotomy (blood draw)
- a follow up consultation to discuss results and any treatment options*
- a copy of your blood results and
- a copy of the results and a letter with any other information to your GP (if required).
