shockwave therapy

About Us

Shockwave Therapy, also known as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT),

is a safe, non-invasive procedure used to manage a variety of soft tissue and tendon problems. It is used when other treatments have not been successful.

Shockwave therapy involves mechanical shockwaves being passed through the skin to the sore area using a handheld probe. The shockwaves are not electrical but are low energy sound waves that can be heard.

It is still not known exactly how shockwave therapy works, but it is thought that the treatment stimulates the body’s own healing process and influences nerve fibres reducing pain.

Key Conditions Treated by Shockwave Therapy

  1. Plantar Fasciitis: This common condition involves inflammation of the plantar fascia, leading to heel pain. Shockwave therapy has shown significant success in relieving pain and improving function, especially in chronic cases.
  2. Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis): This overuse injury affects the outer elbow and can cause persistent pain. Shockwave therapy helps reduce inflammation and restore grip strength, making it a valuable treatment option.
  3. Calcific Tendinitis of the Shoulder: In this condition, calcium deposits form in the rotator cuff tendons, causing pain and stiffness. Shockwave therapy can effectively dissolve these calcifications and improve shoulder mobility.
  4. Achilles Tendinopathy: This condition affects the Achilles tendon, often seen in athletes. Shockwave therapy promotes healing and reduces pain, allowing for a quicker return to activity.
  5. Patellar Tendinopathy (Jumper’s Knee): Athletes suffering from chronic pain in the patellar tendon can benefit from shockwave therapy, which aids in collagen remodeling and pain relief.
  6. Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (Hip Bursitis): This condition involves inflammation around the hip and responds well to shockwave therapy, especially when other treatments have failed.

A course of 6 sessions, once per week is advised.
